Shogun of Crime (Chapter 21)
Todd waited outside of the coffee shop silently. It was cold, and the winter wind blew a frigid current of air across his face and chest, which was slightly exposed with his jacket unzipped slightly. He didn’t care though. He brushed his hair back and grimaced at everything going through his mind. He clenched his fingers around the cup in front of him and found himself staring at the table darkly. His phone was beside the cup, as if waiting to ring or be used. He shot glances at it every now and then, but when eh saw no change on the device, he’d go back to staring at the table. It was getting late, and the sun was starting to set. He wanted this to be over…but he wouldn’t move…not yet. “Todd.” He looked up and saw her. He’d been so distracted in his thoughts, he hadn’t even noticed Oichi approaching. Whenever he’d been on a date with her in the past, Oichi would wear something nice and pretty…but today she was wearing exactly what he’d imagined the Tigress of New Mercia wearing. A

Storms of Fate (Chapter 3)
The underground parts of the city were a maze of winding tunnels, caverns, and districts. The districts were divided by use and prejudice. There were market districts; large and easily accessable areas that were more well lit by overhead lights that allowed people to purchase goods and services easily. There were living districts, where people set up sheltered and underground apartments. There were recreation districts, which were preserved for fun, games, and activity; after all doing nothing with your time could grow maddening. But none of these districts were what Rachel was looking for. Deeper into the tunnels was a nearly forgotten corner known as the ‘Freak District.’ Some individuals who were touched more fiercely by the Storms than others often ended up here. Though human in mind, their bodies had mutated or changed to the point that they couldn’t be accepted by regular society. The area was lived by the lowest of society…the ones that no one wanted to be caught with. Because

Nomad (Final Chapter)
Three months passed in the Kingdom of Maiyoh…if such a title could even be given to such a place now. The valley that once was home to a bustling, prosperous city, was now a massive lake, with only a handful of structures poking out of the churning water to remind the world a city once was there. Dark clouds hung over the land that angrily poured out their wrath upon the people. When the rivers tried to carry water away and receive it, the storms would spring up anew. Half of Maiyoh was drowned; the other half clinging to driftwood and boats to stay alive. The people fed on fish, sea birds, and sometimes each other. But the ones truly feasting were the scavengers and gulls who swooped upon bloated bodies and fed on them hungrily. Sharks began to circulate the town, feasting on the drowned and the struggling. When a poor soul fell over into the water, it was a death sentence. The people pleaded, floating to the only building that remained standing and imposing over the sea around it

Kim stirred, the sensation of wind blowing past her face and hair causing a tickling sensation on her nose as loose strands of her hair whisked lazily past her. She winced and shook her head, lifting it up to see where the draft was coming from…only to be met with a terrifying sight. She was on the head of the Statue of Liberty! It was unmistakable! The large green and hard top of the statue felt cold and tacky under her as she screamed and started to get up, her legs trembling. Surrounding her on all sides was the sea. She could see the city of lights blinking and winking at her in the distance, and she looked to her right to see the large arm of the statue holding up its torch to the sky. She let out another scream and scrambled back to her feet in panic. “Calm yourself, or you’ll fall off…” A voice spoke calmly with a hint of an Eastern European accent. Though the wind was blowing, the voice was clear as day, and Kim spun around to see who had spoken. There, standing on one of the

Storms of Fate (Chapter 2)
The surface level always felt cold somehow. It was strange, but Rachel always felt an urge to bundle up when she wasn’t below ground. Ever since the start of the Storms, most of society had tried to move civilization underground into catacombs, tunnels, and bunkers to hide from the ever present threats. But buildings couldn’t just move, so what remained of the city was a hellscape. An empty ghostly void where the only sounds that met you was the wind moaning on the empty and abandoned buildings, the occasional moan or growl of a dog or animal, and sometimes gun fire from a Ranger Unit that had engaged a loose monster or zombie. As the Ranger team climbed out of the truck within the safety of the city walls, Rachel felt that same sense of chill roll over her as she walked around, checking for any anomalies. Darnell was right behind her, grunting as his boots impacted on the pavement. Abandoned cars scattered all around. Grass grew up from sidewalks and between crevices, as if nature

The night was cold, and Kim was bundling up in her jacket to keep warm. She shivered to herself and hurried to the agreed meeting point. 1941 Kirk St. It was a run down old shack of a building. There were boards on a few windows, and it looked practically abandoned; maybe even condemned. But this was where Ricky said he would wait for her. She just hoped that he wasn’t bullshitting her. She hadn’t come unprepared though. The Chief’s warnings still played in her mind as she approached the building. She had her weapon hidden beneath her coat, ready in case anything funny happened. She also wasn’t alone. Walking beside her, yawning tiredly, was Officer Grayson. He was a mousy haired fellow in his mid 40’s. Lazy and a bit of a doofus to a few in the precinct, but he did like Kim. He was always sneaking peeks at her when she walked by, and anyone with eyes could see that he fancied her. Too bad for him, she thought, he wasn’t her type. He knew it too. But that didn’t stop him from trying.

Storms of Fate (Chapter 1)
Rachel jolted a little, her eyes jumping open in surprise as she felt the bump. Her butt bounced hard on the seat of the car and she groaned, rubbing her tailbone where she’d hit hard. A few of the grunts in the car with her chuckled, and she found herself flushing a little in embarrassment. She hadn’t meant to doze off, but carrides that felt like they lasted this long always sent her to dreamland. Dreams were nice…a pleasant reprieve from reality. Because of the dark inside of the truck back, with the canopy over their heads, it was impossible to see outside without lifting the flap of the back…but no one was really interested in looking. It all looked the same. Rachel brushed hair out of her eyes and then reached into her pouch clasped to her back. She pulled out a small metal tube and wrapped her lips around it. One soldier sitting next to her whistled at the erotic gesture, which she rewarded with a kick to his shin. She ignored his yelp of pain as she pressed a button on the
The morning started blandly. There was nothing out of the ordinary for the people of Maiyoh. Men and women awoke to go about their business. Rumor of a strange visitor to the Kings palace had circulated, but all believed it inconsequential. That is…until they saw a woman appear. On a sharp ledge overlooking the town, the woman in white hair stood. Her hair blew free as her robes flapped in the morning breeze. She held out her hands wide, as if to embrace the heavens themselves and her eyes…many onlookers claimed that her eyes glowed white “The One speaks as thus,” she declared in a voice not entirely her own, “From this moment forth, my anger shall burn against you. The ground you walk will wither and dry, cracking and turning to dust! Your crops will die, your people and livestock will go thirsty. The air itself shall burn your lungs, and even night itself will not spare you!” There was a moment of pause…and then, without warning, the sky seemed to tremble as clouds

Wraith Riders (Chapter 3)
The cold snow flakes tickled Yumi’s nose as she stirred. The air was not kind as she rose from her sleep, only to meet the grey clouds outside of the tent. There was a smell of warmth on the frigid air that was welcoming. She started to move, only to realize she was weighed down by a thick quilt. She had little memory of what happened last night, and she struggled to make sense of it. She recalled the bath…a large tub made of wood that looked little more than an animal troph. The water inside was tepid, but a fire lit under it helped to fuel a bubbling onsen that she had found quite to her liking. The woman called ‘Mama’ had been very frustrated. Not with her, of course, as she said repeatedly, but with Jake. The man who had saved her the other night. “That Brewa…oh land sakes, chil’ if he ever learns….” She muttered like that to herself the whole evening, helping her to clean her long raven hair and scrub her skin. She knew how to bathe…but also knew not to argue with Mama. She
